Currently a Copywriter For The Biolan (University yearbook), research assistant for Dr. Aaron Kleist, & Teaching Assistant for Dr. Matt Van Hook

I wrote (or Crayoned) my first book when I was 3 years old. It was about my family being green bean and carrot farmers. None of that was true. I passionately fell in love with reading and writing, which led to me choosing English literature as my course of study in college.

Education

Being a part of the Torrey Honors College meant that I met regularly with a cohort of about 12-15 students to read and discuss the Great Books and classics. These included narratives, philosophical texts, religious texts, poetry, and more. Each session with my cohort was a Socratic-style discussion. The program also involved a rigorous reading and writing schedule, with a paper or creative project due at the end of every semester. This part of my education helped build confidence, along with skills in public speaking, analytical thinking, elocution, quick thinking, adaptability, reflection, attention, creativity, and more.

I took many helpful and enriching courses at Biola apart from the honors college. One English class was called “Technical and Digital Writing,” where I learned to write marketing copy, legal memos, and more. I have been on the Dean’s List every semester from my freshman year to the present.

In high school, I tutored two middle school students with their first year of learning Latin as a foreign language. I assisted them by developing skills and strategies for their success. I also motivated and encouraged the students with accurate feedback and positive reinforcement. This job helped me communicate accurately and utilize visual aids and activities to expedite the learning process.

During my sophomore year of college at Biola University, I was employed as a poetry and prose editor for Inkslinger, which is a literary arts journal. It is completely student-run, meaning students write for, design, and copyedit the journal. I was required to review literary art submissions, communicating and negotiating with my team as well as submitters. I efficiently edited poetry and prose while offering suggestions. I participated in workplace activities, which included community outreach and activities. This was a seasonal job and was unpaid, so I left after working for 1 full academic year.

That same year, I was hired as a news editor for my university’s student-run news publication, The Chimes. This job required my leadership for a small team of writers, communicating thoroughly and clearly with them and different departments to publish news articles. I worked alongside my co-editor, the managing editor, and the editor-in-chief. I built my skills in covering breaking news, conducting interviews, public speaking, copyediting, copywriting, and negotiation. I stayed for 2 full academic years. At the beginning of my second year at this job, I started writing social media copy. This was a result of our transition from being a print publication to being entirely online.

I am currently a senior in college. During the fall semester, Dr. Matt Van Hook of the Torrey Honors College hired me as his research assistant. I researched literary articles about Harper Lee, her writings, and how they intersect with the law. I became adept at quickly analyzing articles, organizing information, and writing memos, which were compiled in an annotated bibliography. This position ended after the fall 2025 semester. Dr. Van Hook, however, rehired me as his teaching assistant for the spring 2026 semester.

At the same time, I was an editorial intern, writing for Intersect Magazine’s society and culture section. This differed from my position with The Chimes, since I wrote op-eds instead of news articles. I was required to pitch and report on timely and relevant topics rooted in Gen Z perspectives. I analyzed trends across social media, politics, technology, and identity, which involve an awareness of pop culture and the digital landscape. The internship lasted only one semester and ended in December of 2025.

I was also hired as a copywriter for my university’s yearbook for the entire academic year. I attend events, interview participants, speakers, faculty members, students, etc., and write copy that will be featured in the yearbook, which will be published in spring 2026.

One of my English professors, Dr. Aaron Kleist, hired me for the spring 2026 semester as his research assistant. I will be helping him write a 7-figure grant.

In my free time, I offer my services as a freelance social media manager or specialist. I have worked as the former for two of my friends’ film projects. One of them is called Pas de Trois, and I run its Instagram account. I create reels, post stories, make posts, write social media copy, and track performance data. I grew up being on social media and running fan accounts for music artists, so I am experienced with CapCut, TikTok, X (Twitter), Instagram, Discord, and more!
